Young team making noise in Babe Ruth

BURNHAM – Don’t look now, but the youngest team in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League is 2-0.

Reedsville, which only has one 15-year-old on the roster, beat Burnham Friday night 15-3 for its second win of the young season.

Not, only has Reedsville won both games, but they did by winning both games by the 10-run rule. Reedsville has outscored its two opponents by a 31-7 margin.

Reedsville trailed after one inning 2-1 as Jack Packer had the highlight of the day for Burnham with a two-run triple in the first inning.

Reedsville took control of the game with a four run third as Burnham’s defense committed three errors that allowed all four runs to score.

Then in the fourth, Reedsville added to the Burnham’s misery with nine runs on six hits.

The key hit came from Carson King, who had a two run single. Brock Sinkus (a 13-year-old), who entered the game in the fourth inning, came through with an RBI single and Cade Attick also singled home a run. Aaron Kanagy, another rookie, made his presence felt with an RBI single.

In the fourth, Reedsville sent 15 batters to the plate. Burnham’s defense had eight miscues for the game along with five walks and two hit batters.

Reedsville finished with 11 hits with Will Fox, who is the elder statesman on the team, finished with three hits, while Attick, King and Sinkus each had two.

King, another 13-year-old, went the distance for Reedsville as he limited Burnham to four hits, struck out four and walked five.

Cole Baker had half of the Burnham hits including a double in the third inning.

Belltown 15,

McVeytown 3

BELLTOWN – Belltown put up 10 runs in the first inning and then crusied to a 15-3 win over McVeytown on Friday night.

It marked the second win in a row for Belltown and moved them into a tie for fifth place.

Zach Hostetler and Ross Underhill led off the game for Belltown with back-to-back doubles and the 10-run inning was underway.

Belltown finished with 14 hits with Underhill getting three, while Zach Hostetler, Gavin Erb and Nick Hostetler, a 13-year-old, had two hits.

Colby Krout tossed a complete game for Belltown. He only had to go five innings due to the 10-run rule. He struck out one, walked one and gave up just four hits.

McVeytown scored its three runs in the third inning thanks to a three run shot from Lucas Harshbarger. Derick Cross had reached on an error and Alec King doubled before Harshbarger homered.

The only other hits came from Noah Fisher and Cross, both singles.
