Police: Ex-officer fondled tobacco store clerk

August 13, 2014
Associated Press

TITUSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A police officer who has since resigned has been charged with fondling a clerk at a northwestern Pennsylvania tobacco store when he was on duty last month.

State police say 55-year-old Clarence Peterson was working as a Titusville officer on July 24 when he entered Spanky's Tobacco World shortly after noon July 24. That's when troopers say Peterson grabbed the female clerk's buttocks as she was stocking store shelves.

The Titusville Herald (http://bit.ly/Vjpytx ) reports Peterson was charged with harassment and indecent assault on Tuesday but not arrested. He's being mailed a summons to appear at a preliminary hearing on Sept. 17.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Peterson, whose phone number was unlisted.

He resigned from the Titusville police on Aug. 1.
