BELLEVILLE - Charles Berwyn Reiter, 88, of 404 Center Drive, Belleville, and formerly of Huntingdon, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014.
He was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late David and Myrtle (Sloppy) Reiter. He was united in marriage to Mildred Bear on May 12, 1946, at his home in Big Run. Mrs. Reiter survives at their Belleville home.
Mr. Reiter is survived by: two sons, Berwyn and wife, Mary, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Bradley and wife Stella, of Belleville; four grandchildren, Brent Reiter, of Rock Springs, Wyo., Carolyn (Reiter) Schnur, of Phoenix, Md., Mindy (Reiter) Martin, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Keith Reiter, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; seven great- grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Grube, of Punxsutawney.
Mr. Reiter was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Mr. Reiter graduated from Big Run High School. He graduated from Penn State University in 1950.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a gunnery instructor on a B-29 bomber. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Reiter began his career with Swigart Associates in 1950. He worked as a claims adjuster and then as a field supervisor. At the time of his retirement in 1988, he was Vice President - Agency Development. He served as a director for both Mutual Benefit and Select Risk from 1975 to 1999. He was the recipient of the Pennsylvania Insurance Association's "Fieldman of the Year" award in 1973, and the Insurance Club of Erie County's 1973-74 "Mr. Field Man" award.
Mr. Reiter was an active member of First United Methodist Church for 58 years. Charles had been a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, served as a trustee and served on the administrative board. He was a member of the Huntingdon Lions Club and Standing Stone Golf Club. Mr. Reiter enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, reading and bowling.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
