MIFFLIN - Charles L. "Charlie" Arentz Sr., 72, of Mifflin, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the Locust Campground, Lewistown.
Born Aug. 22, 1941, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Lee R. and Nancy Mae (Hockenberry) Arentz. On March 4, 1961, he married his surviving wife, Sonja M. (Kinsloe) Arentz, with whom he shared more than 53 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his children, Charles L. "Chuck" Arentz Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Doyles Mills, and Brian E. Arentz, of Mifflintown; siblings, David A. Arentz, of Lewistown, and Dorothy J. Niman and her husband, Scott, of Mifflintown; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Arentz was a 1959 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown, and a graduate of Carnegie College as an x-ray technician.
Until his retirement in 2004 after 41 years of service, he was employed by Standard Steel Corp. and was a member of USWA Local No. 1940, both of Burnham.
Charlie's passion was fishing and he enjoyed camping at the Locust Campground with his buddies. He also enjoyed gathering at McDonalds and at Ted's Garage with all of his NASCAR friends
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, at Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Pastor Casey Hostler officiating. After the service, interment will take place in the Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014, at the funeral home.
