LEWISTOWN - Walter Scott "Walt" Mitton, 79, of Lewistown, passed from this life into Life Eternal on Sunday, July 20, 2014, surrounded by loving family and a caring hospice nurse.
Walt was born Sept. 16, 1934, in Philadelphia, to the late Benjamin S. and Frances (Kinsey) Mitton.
He graduated from Haverford High School in Havertown in 1952 and in 1956 from Gettysburg College, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and the Air Force ROTC.
After graduation, he was commissioned in the Air Force and graduated from navigator training at Ellington Air Force, Houston, Texas, where he met and married his wife, the former Rosalie Anne Thomsen, in June 1958. Walt and Rosalie then traveled to his new assignment as a navigator on RB66s based at Spangdalhem AFB, Germany.
Walt was preceded in death by his sister and only sibling, Frances Mitton Giuliani.
He is survived by: his wife; a daughter, Anne Rene (Michael) Singleton, of South Hiram, Maine; sons, Gregory Scott (Karen) Mitton, of Allentown, and Gary Scott (Denise) Mitton, of Breinigsville; grandchildren, Kara Singleton, Katy and Alex Mitton and Sydney and Ben Mitton; and his mother-in-law, Frances Thomsen, of Norman, Okla.
Walt retired as an executive sales representative from Hallmark Cards in 1991, after 27 years of service.
Walt was an avid sports fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, but what he most enjoyed and was very faithful to attend, was the sporting events and activities of his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, serving for a time as financial committee chairman and on other various committees of the church. He was also an usher and communion steward.
A "Celebration of Life" Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Highland Ave., Lewistown, with Pastor Carola Beasley-Toplisse officiating.
Family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the church.
In keeping with Walt's wishes, there will be no viewing and interment will take place at a later date.
