HOLLIDAYSBURG - Ira D. "ID" Clare, 92, formerly of Highland Avenue, Lewistown, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at The Lutheran Home in Hollidaysburg.
Born Sept. 28, 1921, in Burnham, he was the son of the late Ross D. and Ethel M. (Krewson) Clare. He married his wife, Jean (Jordan) Clare, in April 1948. His wife preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 2007.
He is survived by: his daughters, Christine C. Kirsch and husband, Phillip, of Columbia, Md., and Barbara C. Murray and husband, Stephen, of Hollidaysburg; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Ira first worked in his father's general store, was a firefighter for Middletown Air Depot, and retired from the Department of Transportation in 1981 as a construction inspector, construction manager and permit manager.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany.
Ira was a member of Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewistown, a life member of Highland Park Hose Co., Lewistown Lodge F&M No. 203, Lewistown Chapter RAM No. 186, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and American EX POW.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, Highland Avenue, Lewistown, with Pastor Carola Beasley-Topliffe and Pastor Thomas Morningstar officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
