In regards to the state's unemployment rate at 5.6 percent, this in reality, is much higher. Last year Corbett changed the eligibility resulting in less unemployed workers who qualify. Seasonal farm and construction workers no longer qualify and many, many people have no income, but to Corbett the numbers look good. The Access and food stamp program grows and grows.
The Juniata County School Board's recent declaration of raising real estate taxes once again is irresponsible, cruel and mean-spirited to the residents of this county. Try to rethink that proposed increase and live within your budget. Get rid of some of these external non-educational activities and concentrate on educating our children within the budget that you have currently. This is not a rich area, the real estate market is terrible here, you can't sell anything other than a very inexpensive house. Please don't copy the out of control actions of the Mifflin County School Board with their recent increase.
Some of you people really have your undies in a twist over this same-sex marriage thing. I have a suggestion, take a hard look at the world around you, join the 21st century and get over it.
To re-quote Mike Fleck, he will run on a Democrat party, but he will not change from being a Republican. So, if I was a Democrat why would I vote for Mike Fleck if he's not going to vote and change to Democrat?
The Sentinel covers NASCAR and all the oval dirt tracks. How about some coverage of NHRA?
Renters have every right to have an opinion about the school district in all local, county, state and federal government taxing entities. I rent properties, the rent covers the mortgage, taxes, insurance and allows both maintenance and occasional improvements. Directly or indirectly they pay all taxes, same as the homeowner does. I love renters, they pay and I deduct all costs.
After reading in The Sentinel concerning the school board meeting, I have taken the advice of the Teacher's Union President and the superintendent and I have contacted several legislators begging them please don't give them any more money, they are out of control. Give them a budget and tell the superintendent, you live within your budget or you are fired. These people, the board and the superintendent, if they were running a company they would be bankrupt. None of them know how to run under a budget. They are horrible.
