STATE COLLEGE - John H. Shawver, 92, of McClure, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born Nov. 19, 1921, in Paintersville, he was a son of the late Burton C. and Anna (Furgison) Shawver.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Dorothy L. (Goss) Shawver, on April 25, 1999; one brother; and one sister.
John is survived by a son, John G. Shawver and wife, Louisa, of State College.
John served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He had worked as a pipe fitter at Standard Steel Works.
John was a member of Samuel's United Church of Christ and was treasurer and trustee of the church for some 15 years. He also was a member of the Brooklyn and Decatur Fire Companies and the United Steel Workers Union Local No. 1940.
John enjoyed spending time working in his garden and playing cards with his family.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Clark S. Kelsey officiating.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in Samuel's Church Cemetery.
