As summer approaches, families plan more outside activities. Having a first aid kit readily available is a good idea.
The kit should be packaged in a container that your family recognizes and is easy to transport. I use an insulated lunch bag for mine.
Basic supplies might include:
Adhesive bandages in various sizes
Small paper cups can be used as an eye wash or to cover both eyes while seeking medical attention if one or both eyes are injured.
Sealed bottle of water to wash wounds
Zippered plastic bags for disposal of trash
Paper towels folded in a plastic bag
Baby aspirin, for adult use only
Antibacterial hand sanitizer
Tweezers or tick removal kit
Note pad and pencil or pen
Baby wipes to clean small wounds, abrasions and hands
A tube of cake icing, for low blood sugar
Tylenol and ibuprofen
These are the basic items you will need, and you can add items specific to your family's needs. Most are available at a discount store to keep the cost down.
Have fun putting your kit together. Make it a family project. Have a safe, happy and healthy summer.
