Singers needed for annual patriotic show
LEWISTOWN - The Lewistown Community Band is looking for singers for the annual Let Freedom Ring Concert scheduled for July 3 in front of the Embassy Theater.
As in the past, the concert will feature the Community Band and a chorus of singers from the area. The choir will perform several pieces, including "God Bless America," accompanied by the band.
Chorus rehearsals will be held June 1, 8 and 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. John's Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown. Rehearsals with the band will be held June 23 and 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lewistown Elementary School cafeteria.
There is no cost for participating and new members are welcome.

Historical museums open for the season
The McCoy House Museum, 7 N. Main St., Lewistown, is open from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Sunday until the end of October, except for the holiday weekends of July 6 and Aug. 31.

The Kishacoquillas Valley Historical Society Museum and Barn is open on the second and fourth Sunday and Monday of each month through October.

Stone Arch Players show continues run
LEWISTOWN - The Stone Arch Players of Lewistown production of the murder mystery "And Evermore Shall Be So, " runs through June 1 at the Theatre-in-the-Park, Kish Park.
Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 30-31, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 1. Admission to all performances is $10.

MCHS Art Club to show student work
LEWISTOWN - The Mifflin County High School Art Club is hosting its annual Art Show and Senior Showcase from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.
Students art work will be on display in the high school for the public to view. The Senior Showcase features the work that senior art students created during their high school careers.

give public concert
BELLEVILLE - Belleville Mennonite School's high school concert choir and middle school choir will perform at 7 p.m. June 1 at Locust Grove Mennonite Church, in Belleville. The public is invited.
Auction to benefit Boy Scout camp
SPRING MILLS - Totes for Tomorrow's Scouts will hold its second purse auction at 2 p.m. June 1 at the Seven Mountains Wine Cellars to help support the Seven Mountains Boy Scout Camp.
There will be a silent auction and live auction by Chesney Auctioneering for such designer brands as Kate Spade, Coach, Dooney and Bourke and Michael Kors.
Refreshments, a commemorative wine glass, and door prizes are included along with an opportunity to participate in the "bee hive bash" for themed gift baskets.

Dancers to perform annual recitals
Miss Stephanie's School of Dance Annual Recital will be held at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. June 1 in the Mifflin County High School auditorium. Reserved seating tickets are $12 and will be available at the door before each show or by calling Miss Stephanie at 994-1612.

Kids Fun Fest set for June 7 in Mifflintown
MIFFLINTOWN - The annual Kids Fun Fest at Zimmerman Truck Lines Inc., Mifflintown, will be held June 7.
There will be rides, entertainment, food, games, face painting, raffles, car show, Ellie's Bake Sale, Joey Logano No. 22 car; PSU football players and more.
Proceeds benefit the Geisinger Children's Miracle Network.
Women in military topic for speaker
McALISTERVILLE -The General Thomas Mifflin Chapter NSDAR will meet at 10 a.m. June 7 at the Bread of Life Restaurant.
The speaker will be Suzanne Burchfield, of Port Royal, whose topic will be "Women in the Military," as she recounts her experiences in Qatar.
Members of DAR are women who have established their lineage to a man or woman who aided the cause of American Independence. Applicants interested in participating in the historical, educational and patriotic activities of the NSDAR are welcome. A DAR member is first of all a member of the National Society and through her chapter contributes her service to the collective strength and progress of the National Society.

Entries wanted for Perry Co. calendar
MILLERSTOWN - The Perry County Council of the Arts is accepting entries for its annual photo contest. This year's theme is "Birds and Animals of Perry County." Selected entries will be printed in the 2015 Perry County calendar and sold throughout the county.
There is no fee for entries and no prize money awarded. Both amateur and professional photographers are welcome to enter the contest. The entry deadline has been extended to June 9.

Home run derby set for Relay for Life
LEWISTOWN - A home run derby will be held at 2 p.m. June 14 during Relay For Life at Kish Park.
Children ages 8 to 12 can participate in their own age group. A trophy will be awarded to the top player in each age group and medals given to second and third place players. Each player must provide their own pitcher and Little League-approved bat and helmet. Registration is $10 per batter and includes a T-shirt. Forms are available at Dan Bennett State Farm, 324 S. Big Tree festival to be held June 15
MIFFLINTOWN - The Big Tree Music and Art Festival is back this year at a new location.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 15 at Laurel Rock Farm, in Arch Rock, near Mifflintown.
Acts scheduled to appear include: Aces and Eights, Bajans, Blue Heron featuring Delphine Kirkland, Austin Burns, Eugene Bialystock, Con Spirito, Earl Davis, The Heggs, Landing Leslie, Pishima, The Roads, Rotten Belly Blues, Truth Junkies, Erica Shellenberger and 61/49 and Nathaniel Hohol and Walking Shapes.
The concert is held to benefit the Juniata County Food Pantry.
American Legion to host car show
McCLURE - The fourth annual American Legion classic car show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 28 at American Legion Post 942, 40 Forbes St., McClure.
Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon and the entry fee is $12. The fee is reduced to $10 if paid by June 23. Trophies will be awarded in various categories.

2nd Annual Davy Jones Day slated
BEAVER SPRINGS - The Middlecreek Area Community Center is sponsoring the 2nd Annual Davy Jones Memorial Day which will be held June 28.
The event runs from 3-7 p.m. at the Beavertown carnival grounds. There will be live music, food and karaoke. The unveiling of the Davy Jones Memorial Statue will also take place. The bed race will begin at 1 p.m. at the Beaver Springs Dragway.

Millerstown Flea Market is Aug. 16
MILLERSTOWN -Millerstown's Annual Outdoor Flea Market and Craft Show will be held Aug. 16 at the Millerstown Community Park, 110 West Juniata Parkway, near the Millerstown swimming pool, just off the ramps of Route 22-322.
Flea market vendors, yard sale individuals, craft vendors, antique vendors, farm market and produce vendors and businesses are all welcome to set up for the day for a fee of $10. More than 100 vendors are expected. No prior registration is required. Set up after 5:30 a.m. on the morning of the show. Rain date is Aug. 23.
Food and beverage sales are reserved by the sponsoring organization, Millerstown Community Success, Inc.

Photographers may enter new contest
LEWISTOWN - The work of amateur photographers will be featured in a Goose Day Photography Contest sponsored by the Mifflin-Juniata Arts Council and the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau.
To be eligible, photographs must have been taken between Jan. 1, 2013, and Aug. 1, 2014. Categories are: Townscapes, Country Views, Water, Woodlands, Flora & Fauna. Faces and recognizable people may be in the photos, but a completed release form allowing JRVVB to publish the photograph must accompany the contest entry. Forms will be made available by the JRVVB. All entries must be received by 5 p.m. Aug. 1.
All entries will be on display at Gallery 3West on The Square in Downtown Lewistown for Goose Day weekend, Sept. 27 and 28.
Photos are to be submitted in digital form only. Entries must conform to an 8-by-10-inch format and must be at least 300 dpi resolution. There is a $5 entry fee for each photo.

Applications for Vet Queen are available
MIFFLINTOWN - Applications for candidates for the 2014-15 Juniata County Veterans Queen are now available at Juniata, East Juniata and Greenwood high schools and Juniata Mennonite School.
The contest includes a $1,000 "Sissy York" Scholarship award.
