The Juniata County Beef and Breeders Club met on February 11 at the Juniata County Courthouse Annex Building.
After the meeting was called to order, pledge recited and attendance taken, Breanna Frierson did her demo on breeding heifers. She explained to her fellow 4Hers that breeding should be done on animals that are 13 to 15 months old and should have reached 65 to 70 percent of their mature body weight. She also talked about calving ease in a bull.
Drew Lauver also did his demonstration that evening. He talked about tick born diseases in cattle. There are over 500 species world-wide with 25 being identified in PA. He reminded us that if a tick is found on your calf, make sure you do an entire inspection of the whole animal as there could be more. Each member gave an update on their various project animals and our Leader Vicki Varner gave us pointers on using our showstick at home as well as in the showring.
Juniata County Beef and Breeders Club members Katie Fry, Raven Weiand, Breanna Frierson, Colby Frierson, Rachel Bargo, Caleb Bargo, Kasey Walters, and Drew Lauver with their showsticks.
Good luck members!!
