Mary Isabell (Wagner) Stong Ferster

MIFFLINTOWN - Mary Isabell (Wagner) Stong Ferster, 80, of Mifflintown, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Elmcroft of Reedsville Senior Living Community.

Born April 20, 1934 in Walker Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Stewart E. and Emma L. (Arnold) Wagner.

She is survived by: three children, Sharon Noss and companion, Mark Harper, of Reedsville, Daniel Stong and wife, Cathie, of Port Royal, and Amy Stong and husband, Michael Faley, of Wellsville; one son-in-law, David Noss, of Reedsville; two stepchildren, Linda Rager and husband, Dennis, of Lewistown, and Kurt Ferster and wife, Nancy, of State College; one sister, Louella Cisney and husband, David, of Port Royal, and four brothers, Earl Wagner and wife, Dena, of Mifflintown, Kenneth Wagner, of McAlisterville, Kermit Wagner and wife, Connie, of Mifflintown and Roy Wagner and wife, Carol, of McClure; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and several stepgrandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William D. Stong, whom she married May 17, 1951, on Nov. 23, 1976; her second husband, J. Boyd Ferster, whom she married June 1, 1978, on July 18, 2011; an infant daughter, Ellen Louise Stong, an infant son, two sisters, Eleanor Wagner and Madalene Graybill and one brother, Theodore Wagner.

Mary graduated from Juniata Joint High School and worked as a waitress at Zimmie's Diner and a cashier at Stop 35 Restaurant.

She was a member of the Port Royal Presbyterian Church and the Victory Sunday School Class. She sang in the church choir and was an ordained Elder. She was a past Sunday school superintendent and past Sunday school teacher.

She enjoyed reading her Bible and daily devotions, attending activities at the Four Seasons Senior Center in Mifflintown, playing cards, putting jigsaw puzzles together, doing crossword puzzles and gardening. But the thing she enjoyed most of all was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, at Port Royal Presbyterian Church, 404 Main Street, Port Royal, with the Rev. Crystal Lyde officiating. Interment in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Monday at the church.
