Janet H. ‘Jan’ Hackenberger

THOMPSONTOWN -Janet H. "Jan" Hackenberger, 84, of Thompsontown, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at her home.

Born Feb. 26, 1930, in Thompsontown, she was a daughter of the late Harold Isaac and Edna (Frymoyer) Haines.

She is survived by: her husband, L. Eugene "Gene" Hackenberger, whom she married June 30, 1951; three children, Michele Meiser and husband, Doug, of Mifflintown, Dane Hackenberger and wife, Susan, of Mifflintown and Joli Strawser and husband, Todd, of Port Matilda; six grandchildren, Malia Asthappan and husband, Jibey, Kiersta Meiser, Kahla Hackenberger, Jenna Hackenberger, Mason Strawser and Mitchell Strawser; three great-grandchildren Kaiya, Carter, and Kayli Asthappan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Charters, and her beloved dog Sue Anne.

Jan graduated from Thompsontown High School. She was a real estate agent for Caldwell-Banker Realty and, earlier in life, worked at the McAlisterville Bank. She was her husband's partner in life and an excellent homemaker for the 62 years of their marriage.

She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Thompsontown and also attended Cedar Grove BIC Church.

She enjoyed cruising the world, water skiing, snow skiing and keeping up with the latest fashions. The most important thing to her was spending time with her family and friends and being "Mimi" to her grandchildren, encouraging them in whatever they were doing.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 19 N. Mill St., Thompsontown with the Rev. Mike Sigler officiating. Interment will follow in Thompsontown Lutheran Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.
