LEWISTOWN - Frederick L. Gers Jr., 91, of Lewistown, died at 8:33 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his home.
Born March 21, 1923, in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Frederick L. Gers Sr. and Maude (Baughman) Gers.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Honey (Folk) Gers, on Nov. 24, 2009; a daughter, Judith Ann Gers, on Aug. 24, 1997; and a brother, James A. Gers.
He is survived by: a son, Frederick L. Gers III, of Fairfax, Va.; grandson, Frederick L. Gers IV, of Virginia: granddaughters, Catherine A. Gers, of Arlington, Va., Marie L. Arminger of Orlando, Fla., and Kimberly J. Gers, of Orlando, Fla.; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Miller and husband, Darl, of Lewistown.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, having served submarine duty in the Pacific Theatre and in the Atlantic Fleet during the Korean Conflict.
Fred was the owner and operator of the Gulf Station in Lewistown from 1949 until his retirement in 1981. He also owned Losurdo's Restaurant and Ger's Auto Sales.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and was scout master of Sacred Heart Boy Scouts Troop No. 12 from 1950 to 1960.
He was a supervisor of Granville Township and served six years as a Mifflin County School Director.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with Father William Weary officiating.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
His family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, and a scripture service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
