ELLIOTTSBURG-The Greenwood boys track and field team won the Mustang Invitational on Saturday at West Perry High School, accumulation 131 points on the day to edge second place Dover (126 points).
Greenwood used a plethora of third, fourth and fifth place finishes, along with two event wins from Tyler Fegley and Hunter Wirth to earn the win.
While Dover, third place West Perry (114 points), fourth place Hollidaysburg (108 points) each won five events, Greenwood cashed in with more placewinners.
"Our third, fourth and fifth placewinners really made the difference," coach Tom Magill said. "That's pretty much how we were able to win the team title."
The Wildcats were led by Fegley's triple jump win (40-2) and Wirth's pole vault first-place (12 feet).
The girls also had a nice showing, finishing second with 129 points to winner Hollidaysburg, who claim 10 event titles.
Taylor Hartman, Emily Fisher and Hattie Kuhns led the way for the girls with Hartman, who recorded a personal-best, and Fisher taking first-place in the triple jump (32-1 1/4) and shot put (35 2 3/4), respectively.
While Kuhns didn't win anything, she was integral in the high point total, taking third in the 100-meter and 200-meter while also anchoring a top-3 relay team.
"She had a pretty good day," Magill said. "She was probably one of our top point-getters."
