MILROY - Melvin K. "Dart" Harpster, 79, of Milroy, and formerly of Siglerville, died at 3:40 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital emergency room.
He was born on Jan. 28, 1935, in Burnham, a son of the late Melvin L. and Faye E. (Houtz) Harpster. His wife, Renna Mae (Ramsey) Harpster preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 2001. His fiancee, Loretta Pursell, survives.
Also surviving are: his children, Mrs. John (Melanie) Tedeschi, of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Sidney (Denise A.) Hile, of Milroy, and Todd R. Harpster and wife, Deb, of Reedsville; five grandchildren, Whitney, Colin, Grant, Ellec and Adam; and siblings, Carol Prato, of Stormstown, Larry Harpster, of Richmond, Va., Barbara Cooper, of Richmond, Va., and Michael Harpster, of Richmond, Va.
He was a 1954 graduate of Chief Logan High School. He retired from Standard Steel, Burnham, in 1977 after 33 years of service as a machinist.
He was a U.S Army Veteran from 1957 to 1965.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 203, Lewistown, St. John's Lutheran Church, Siglerville and American Legion Post No. 779, Centre Hall.
He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening canning and cooking. He was also an avid sports fan.
A memorial service will be held at a 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Siglerville, with the Rev. Janice K. Moody officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
His family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the church.
