Rev. William Weary, left, of Sacred Heart Church in Lewistown, performs a solemn blessing of the Sacred Heart School’s children in preparation for the Pentential season of Lent and in honor of the saint of the day, Saint Katharine Drexel (D. 1955). Drexel was a wealthy Philadelphia heiress and niece of the founder of Drexel University. She became a religious sister in her early 30s, devoting her inheritance to schools and orphanages she founded for Native American Indians and African Americans. She founded Xavier University in New Orleans and is one of several patron saints for Catholic education. Sacred Heart students assisting Weary are, front, Kenny Melara; back, from left, James Hazard, Paul Ames and Mario Cabrera.
