BELLEVILLE - Alan W. Baker Sr., 78, of Shawnee Drive, Belleville, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at The Malta Home, Granville.
He was born on July 10, 1935, in Belleville, a son of the late Russell Calvin and Mary L. (Warner) Baker Sr. His wife, Joyce E. (Earnest) Baker, whom he married on Aug. 10, 1957, survives.
Also surviving are: his children, Alan W. Baker Jr., of Spruce Creek, Lynne D. Baker, of Belleville, Dudley T. Baker, of Madison, Ala., Calvin L. Baker, of Macon, Ga., Mark D. Baker, of Belleville, and Philip C. Baker, of Belleville; three grandchildren, Douglas D. Baker, of Burnham, Janay Baker, of Madison, Ala., and Breanna Baker, of Madison, Ala.; a great-grandson, Darrien Baker, of Macon, Ga.; a great-granddaughter, Emalyn Baker, of Burnham; and siblings, Suzanne Stroup, of Belleville, and Reba Harmon, of Belleville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Lark Jean Baker; a brother, Russell C. Baker Jr.; and two sisters, Rhoda L. Kilmer and Claire Zook.
He was the owner and operator of Baker's Plumbing, Heating and Backhoe Services for 42 years.
He was a lifetime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Belleville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 3597 W. Main St., Bellville, with the Rev. Paul Kampa officiating. Private interment will take place in St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at the church.
