MIFFLIN - Carrie B. Hackenberger, 28, of Mifflin, died at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, in Beale Township, Juniata County, due to the result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Born on June 8, 1985, in Camp Hill, Cumberland County, she was a daughter of Jacklyn A. (Stoner) Wilt and her stepfather Paul C. Wilt, of Mifflin, and D. Curtis Hackenberger and her stepmother H. Ada (Towsey) Hackenberger, of Port Royal.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by: a brother, Anthony C. Hackenberger and his companion, Jenna Gibboney, of Newport; her paternal grandmother, Elsie (Kerchner) Hackenberger, of Thompsontown; her maternal grandfather, William H. Stoner, of Mifflintown; and she leaves behind a precious niece whom she dearly loved, Hannah.
Preceding her in death were: a sister, Danielle J. Hackenberger; a stepbrother, John M. Wilt; a maternal grandmother, Mary Martha (Auker) Stoner; and a paternal grandfather, Carl A. "Pete" Hackenberger.
Miss Hackenberger was a 2003 graduate of Juniata High School, a 2008 graduate of Lock Haven University and she was currently working on her master's degree at Wilks University.
Her memberships included the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post No. 5863, American Legion Post No. 298, all of Mifflintown, and the UFHO Indoor Field Hockey team. She also was a member of the National Barrel Horse Association.
She currently was employed for her fifth year by the Greenwood School District as a sixth grade special education teacher at the Greenwood Middle School. She also was employed part-time by Red Zone, Mifflintown.
Carrie was a modern day cowgirl who loved being outdoors hunting and fishing; however, her true passion was horses, especially barrelracing, and she had a true gift for training them.
She was always on the go traveling all over the U.S. to equestrian events, where, in 1997 she was the Champion of the 1997 PA 4H Barrel Racing Contest and in 2002 she made it to the finals of the National High School Rodeo.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Third and Lemon Streets, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Martha Carlson, Rev. Edward Carlson and Rev. Graham Fowler officiating. Interment will be held after the service in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church.
