LEWISTOWN - I. Robert Esh, 81, of 90 Seneca Road, Belleville, died at 1:31 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Geisinger-Lewis- town Hospital.
He was born March 29, 1932, in Belleville, a son of the late Ira John and Mae (Lepley) Esh. His wife, Margaret W. "Peg" (Whittaker) Esh, whom he married in 1963, survives at their home.
He also is survived by: children, Elizabeth Smith and husband, James, of Falls Church, Va., Dr. Kimberly Russell and husband, Dr. John Russell, of Greenwood, S.C., David W. Esh and wife, Melinda, of Frederick, Md., and Christopher S. Esh and wife, Tammy, of Lititz; grandchildren, Katie and Alex Smith, Whittaker, Dorothy Anna and Peter Russell, and Abagail and Eliza Esh; sister, Margery Shilling and husband, Richard, of Belleville; and brother-in-law, Thomas Whittaker and wife, Nancy, of Dillsburg.
He was a 1950 graduate of Belleville High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1959, he received a degree in industrial engineering from Penn State University. He was employed at New Holland as an engineer for 41 years. He also was a registered engineer in the state of Pennsylvania.
He loved to do gardening and yardwork. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate and Penn State football fan. He very much enjoyed being in the outdoors and traveling with his wife.
He was a member of the West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, a trustee, a deacon, and was a member of the choir for a number of years. He served as supervisor for Union Township for more than 30 years. He was also a Little League baseball coach for several years and assisted with Meals on Wheels in the Big Valley area.
A funeral service will be held in his memory at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at West Kish Presbyterian Church, Belleville, with Pastor Scott Andrews officiating. Burial will take place at Machpelah Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, at the church.
