McCLURE - Police said one McClure man has been charged in connection with missing money from the Top Star Convenience Store, 25523 state Route 522, McClure.
According to a report from police, on Feb. 6, 2013, Middleburg Police were contacted by Pat Mangan, district manager of the store, who reported the missing money from store accounts. Police said an audit was conducted on the store accounts and found that $3,300 in cash was unaccounted for.
According to the report, an investigation was conducted and it was learned that John Knepp, store manager at the time, of McClure, was aware of the missing money and covered by moving money from one account to another, changing the figures in the accounting books. Police said during an interview with Knepp he admitted to knowing of the missing money and to covering for a store employee that he suspected of taking the money. Police said that, in the interview, he also admitted to rolling money from one shift to another until the amount became too large to cover by roll-over. According to the report, he then began to move money from one store account to another before the store auditors found the accounts did not match store records.
Police said Knepp was charged with theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds.
