LEWISTOWN - Lewistown Borough Council appointed a new council member during a special meeting of the council Monday evening.
Nominations were made to fill the empty council position left by former Council Member Lee Bollinger, who resigned from his position at the Dec. 30 council meeting. Council member John Adams nominated Justin Treggo, Council member Mark Lawson nominated Brian Schell, and Council member Larry Searer nominated Bill Parson. After all voting was complete there was a tie between Trego and Schell. Mayor Deborah Bargo broke the tie by voting for Schell. The appointment was adopted with one no vote cast from Searer.
The council also voted to allow borough staff to reallocate the General Funds in the 2014 budget, with the instructions to not raise taxes. Any changes to the budget will be advertised before re-adoption at the next council meeting. Changes to the budget could be needed due to the continued uncertainty of the repayment of Mifflin County Regional Police pensions. Changes to the boroughs street excavation ordinance, payment of taxes by the elected tax collector ordinance, and establishing one-way street ordinance will also be advertised.
The Lewistown Borough Council meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the borough hall.
