LEWISTOWN - A proposed dog park at Kishacoquillas Park, recently approved by the Derry Township Supervisors, will receive financial help from the county, following action taken Thursday at the bi-weekly business meeting of the Mifflin County Commissioners.
Bill Gomes, the county's director of planning, requested and received approval from the county to kick in $15,000 from the county's annual Act 13 allocation from the state to go toward the project, which is estimated to cost in the neighborhood of $100,000.
"Derry Township received $50,000 for the dog park and they asked for $75,000," Gomes said after the meeting. "This allocation will hopefully get them closer to the number they need."
Gomes said the project will include filling in the area currently housing the old swimming pool and getting the restrooms, parking area, and fencing up to Act 88 standards.
