HERSHEY - Jay E. Ort, 79, of Lewistown, died at 12:21 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
Born June 6, 1934, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late A. Grant and Zola (Williams) Ort.
He is survived by: his wife, Joan P. (Kitting) Ort, whom he married on April 4, 1959; his children, Lori S. Partchey and husband, Robert Jr., of Lewistown, Paul W. Ort and wife, Spring, of Egg Harbor City, N.J., Andrew J. Ort and wife, Joanne, of Granville, and Peter K. Ort and wife, Melanie, of Lewistown; grandchildren, Brittany Taylor, Jessica Ort, Alicia Ort, Davi, Carli and Cody Ort, Kyle, Ashlyn and Grant Ort; and a great-granddaughter, Alexus Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Grant William Ort and Sally Fultz.
Jay was a 1952 graduate of Lewistown High School and a graduate of the University of Idaho in 1959.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Korea.
He was a professional geologist for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, a technical adviser on the Apollo project and also a technical advisor of the Titan missile project. He retired from the state as a hydro-geologist.
He was a member of Fairview Bible Church where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday school for more than 40 years.
His funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Fairview Bible Church, 5290 Granville Road, Lewistown, with Pastor Paul Ort officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, at the church.
