KUTZTOWN - Five Mifflin County indoor track and field athletes placed at the Kutztown University Golden Bear Invitational.
"We had several place winners and were encouraged with the effort that we got from everybody," Mifflin County coach Scott Gantz said. "We have been preparing for this meet since the middle of November, so it was nice to get out on the track and compete."
George Donahey was the best of the Husky finisher, placing third in the pole vault, clearing 12'0".
Three Huskies placed in the shot put event.
Both Makayla and Makenzie Rearick got fourth and seventh place, registering 34' 5.5" and 31' 2", respectively.
Caleb Smith finished eighth in the boys event, throwing 40' 2".
Rounding out the Huskies placewinners was Kelsie Kennedy, who earned 8th place in the 55 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 9.49 seconds.
The Huskies will compete next on Saturday at the Kevin Dare Invitational at Penn State University.
Mifflin County 54, DuBois 10
DUBOIS - The Mifflin County girls basketball team throttled DuBois 54-10 on Saturday, winning its third game of the week.
"Our goal was to get three wins this week and we did it," Mifflin County coach Roger Herto said.
This win came a lot easier than the previous two.
Most of the starters only played about half the game and some of the younger players and seniors who don't get to play a lot all got opportunities in this one.
The Huskies held DuBois to two points in the opening half.
"The first quarter we came out and defended well." Herto said. "They had a young team and they struggled quite a bit."
The Huskies also won the junior varsity contest.
Mifflin County will take the floor next on Tuesday when they travel to Carlisle.
Danville 52, Midd-West 19
MIDDLEBURG - Brianna Beiler hit two threes and scored eight points, but Midd-West fell to Danville 52-19 Saturday in a Heartland Athletic Conference girls basketball game.
Danville got out to a 24-8 halftime lead and would only build on the lead.
Danville also took the junior varsity game 34-21.
Midd-West will be back in action Wednesday night when they travel to Jersey Shore.
East Juniata 63, Millersburg 37
COCOLAMUS - Nick Lorenz scored 25 points and East Juniata stayed perfect on the season, beating Millersburg 63-37 in a Tri-Valley League boys basketball game.
Bailey Coder scored 20 and David Brantley added 15 for the Tigers.
East Juniata led 35-11 at the half and never looked back.
The Tigers will continue their quest for the Tri-Valley League crown when travel to Upper Dauphin tonight.
BELLEFONTE - Midd-West went 1-4 at the Bellefonte duals on Saturday, picking up a 45-36 win over Hazelton.
The stars for Midd-West were Alex Lieberman (5-0), Adam Zerby (4-1) and Corey Stauffer (4-1).
Lieberman earned three pins on the day while Zerby notched two.
Zerby's only loss came at the hands of State College's Jack Vandervort while Stauffer's came when he was pinned by host Bellefonte's Luke Leathers.
Midd-West will return to the mats Thursday night when they travel to Mifflinburg.
