A. Herbert King

ALLENSVILLE - A. Herbert King, 85, of 579 Front Mountain Road, Allensville, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at his home.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1928, in Belleville, a son of the late Archie Frederick and Lizzie Mae (Hartzler) King. His wife, Dorothy B. (Peachey) King, whom he married on Oct. 4, 1952, preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 2012.

He is survived by: his children, Barbara I. Peachey and husband, Samuel, of Belleville, Evelyn E. King, of Allensville, A. Fred King and wife, Elsie M., of Allensville, Agnes A. Groff and husband, Roy, of McVeytown, Nancy D. Watkins and husband, Dale, of Chambersburg, Janet M. Carr and husband, Gerald, of Barwick, Ontario, Canada, Charles H. King and wife, Cynthia D., of Mill Creek, Foster R. King and wife, Regina M., of Mill Creek, Beth E. Yoder and husband, David R., of McVeytown, and Sally J. Peachey and husband, Raymond B., of Belleville; 55 grandchildren; 25 great- grandchildren; siblings, Ida R. Peachey, of Belleville and J. Mark King, of Aaronsburg; sister-in-law, Julia A. King, of Belleville; and brother-in-law, Crist D. Peachey, of Belleville.

He was preceded in death by: two grandchildren, Allen Groff and Maria Carr; and three brothers and three sisters, Norman C. King, Zella M. King, Ruth E. Hartzler, David H. King, Glen E. King and Anna K. King.

He retired from dairy farming in 1987. He also hauled livestock from 1981 until his death. He was a member of the Beth-El Mennonite Church. He enjoyed hunting, reading, raising German shepherds and helping his sons on their farms. He took an interest in the activities of all of his grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held in his memory at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Allensville Mennonite Church, with Wesley King, Frank King and Raymond Peachey officiating. Burial will take place after the service at Allensville Mennonite Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the church, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, at the church.

Arrangements are under the care of Henderson Funeral Home Inc., 3813 W. Main St., Belleville.
