NEW LANCASTER VALLEY - Arthur L. Wert Sr., 69, of New Lancaster Valley, died at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at his home.
He was born on April 25, 1944, in New Lancaster Valley, a son of the late Brown M. and Annie Victoria (Eastwood) Wert. His wife, Alice F. (Showalter) Wert, whom he married on March 31, 1963, survives.
He is also survived by: his children, Annette Houser, of New Lancaster Valley, Arthur L. Wert Jr. and wife, Barbara Renee, of New Lancaster Valley, and Adam Wert, of New Lancaster Valley; five grandchildren, Emily Sheaffer, Nathaniel "Toby" Houser, Cassandra Smoker, Leslie Houser and Nichole Houser; great-grandsons, Jacob Houser, Cameron Stephens and one soon to arrive; and brother and sisters, Sarah Sycoc, of Golden LivingCenter - William Penn, Lewistown, Norman Wert, of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, Curt Wert and wife, Nancy, of New Lancaster Valley, and Victoria Thompson and husband, Larry, of Milroy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: brothers and sisters, George Wert, Glenn Wert, Kenneth Wert, Madeline "Sis" Hassinger, Irma Schultz, and Mary Heimbach; an infant brother, William Wert; and two infant sisters, Dorothy Wert and Luella Wert.
He worked at New Holland, in Belleville, for 35 years. Due to illness, he was placed on long-term disability and reached retirement age.
He graduated Kish High School in 1962. He was a member of the New Lancaster Valley Evangel Methodist Church, where he took the responsibility of overseeing the church.
Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Numerous times he took trips to the western states to hunt. He also traveled to Canada to fish. His hobby of raising beef cattle brought him a lot of happiness, along with special memories he shared with family.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the New Lancaster Valley Evangel Methodist Church, New Lancaster Valley Road, Milroy, with Pastor Nathaniel Kincaid officiating. Burial will be in the New Lancaster Valley Cemetery, Milroy.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville.
