David K. Forsythe Sr.

LEWISTOWN - David K. Forsythe Sr., 84, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully at 4:28 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at his home.

Born Oct. 11, 1929, in Burnham, he was the son of the late Robert H. and Alma M. (Knepp) Forsythe.

He is survived by: his wife of more than 64 years, Mertie C. (Solt) Forsythe, whom he married on Nov. 26, 1949; his children, Mertie Kay Benny and husband, William, of Burnham, and Cindy Jo Kratzer and husband, Norman, of Lewistown; daughter-in-law, Patti Forsythe, of Lewistown; grandchildren, Penny, Sally, Gail, Brandi, Jeremy, Todd, Ryan and Eric; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Catherine Faux, of Burnham.

He was preceded in death by: a son, David K. Forsythe Jr., in February 2013; a stillborn daughter in 1955; and his siblings, Robert, Edward, Richard and Sidney Forsythe and Patricia Sweitzer.

He was a member of the National Guard, having served during the Korean Conflict, where he received a commendation ribbon and pendant.

He was last employed at Postal Supply and retired due to disability in 1970.

He was a member of the Freedom Avenue United Methodist Church.

Dave loved spending time with his family and get-togethers. He enjoyed woodworking and building items around the house. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Freedom Avenue United Methodist Church, 513 Freedom Ave., Burnham, with Pastor Laura Kyler officiating. Interment will be in Vira Methodist Cemetery, where graveside military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.

His family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church.
