LEWISTOWN - John W. Bender, 45, of U.S. Highway 522 South, died Monday, Dec 9, 2013, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
He was born Sept. 28, 1968, in Lewistown, the son of George "Jake" Bender and the late Trudy Metzger Bender. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Ross Bender, whom he married on May 11, 2013.
Also surviving are: a son, Joshua Yocum and companion, Savanna Walker; stepdaughter, Brooke Latherow; brothers and sisters, Christene Wileman, of Newport Richey, Fla., Sheryl Wileman, of Burnham, twin brother Philip Bender and wife, Charity, of Chambersburg, and Paul Bender, of Lewistown; and one grandson, Landyn Yocum.
John was a member of The Salvation Army, an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed Pittsburgh Steelers and Pitt Panthers football. He loved playing slow-pitch softball and competed in the Pennsylvania state finals.
John enjoyed time with his family and friends. He had a heart of gold and never said a bad word about anyone.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec 11, 2013, at Barr Funeral Home Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Philip Bender officiating. A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Interment will be private.
