MIFFLINTOWN - The Juniata County School District Board of Directors welcomed two newly-elected members during a reorganization meeting held Thursday in Mifflintown.
Larry J. Rothrock and Amy L. Wagner were recently elected to serve the board, replacing Randy Dressler and William Book.
In a 5-4 vote, Danny Snyder won re-election as board president, narrowly surpassing support for Ray Page. Snyder will serve a one-year term commencing Dec. 5 and terminating Dec. 4, 2014. Glenda Leister will serve as vice president.
Regular board meetings are scheduled to be held at 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month during the 2014-2015 school year, with the exception of July and December. All July meetings will be special meetings called by Snyder. The December organizational meeting and regular board meeting will both be held on Dec. 4. Meetings will be held at Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School.
The board also appointed the following members to serve in additional positions: Glenda Leister, Mifflin Juniata Career and Technology Center Joint Operations Board; Amy Wagner, TIU 11 Board of Directors; Christine Shadel, Pennsylvania School Boards Association liaison and public outreach key contact; and Melvin Brubaker, transportation committee liaison.
In other new business, the board:
Retained Scott C. Etter, solicitor, at an hourly rate of $140 for 2014, exclusive of bond issues or financing matters which will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Approved a list of taxpayers exonerated from paying 2012 per capita taxes.
Approved John Zendt as a contracted school bus driver for the duration of the 2013-2014 school year.
Approved Ethan J. Hutchinson and Susan L. Smith as substitute teachers and Heather L. Haines and Jessica L. Lucas as substitute school nurses.
Accepted the resignation of Mountain View Elementary School paraprofessional Dana C. Spade, effective Dec. 13.
Approved a request from Juniata High School students Alyssa Parson and Joelle Winey to hold a "pink out" basketball game on Jan. 24, with admission fees and proceeds donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
