John P. ‘Jack’ Henry Jr.

HONEY GROVE - John P. "Jack" Henry Jr., 88, of Honey Grove, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center.

Born on Aug. 4, 1925, in Honey Grove, Juniata County, he was a son of the late John P. Sr. and Margaret A. (Adam) Henry. On Nov. 27, 1948, he married his wife, Stella (Baylor) Henry, with whom he shared more than 65 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his children, Barbara H. Gilson and her husband, Ralph III, of Port Royal, John P. "Pat" Henry III and his wife, Karen B., of Academia, Stephen H. Henry and his wife, Debra K., of Honey Grove, and Sharon L. Henry, of Marysville; he leaves behind six grandchildren, Clinton Gilson, Adam Gilson, Christina Martin, John P. Henry IV, Michael Henry and Bethany Adhikari; and five great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Cheryl L. Henry, preceded him in death on July 7, 1963.

Mr. Henry was a 1943 graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg, and a graduate of Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia.

He proudly served his country during World War II as a naval aviator in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of lieutenant. He was a member of the East Waterford Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and Sunday school teacher.

He was a 33rd degree mason and a member and Past Master of the Union Lodge No. 324, F&A.M., Mifflintown, a member of the Harrisburg Consistory AASR, Past Sovereign Prince of the Harrisburg Council, Prince of Jerusalem, District Deputy Grand Master of the 19th Masonic District from 1973 until 1984, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Juniata Valley Forest No. 88, Lewistown Chapter No. 186, Lewistown Commandery No. 26, Juniata Valley Council No. 64, Penn Priory No. 6 KYCH, Holy Royal Arch Knight, Templar Priests Triune Tabernacle VII, a Very Eminent Past Preceptor and a past officer of all the York Rite Bodies. He was also a member of the Tuscarora Grange No. 774 and the East Waterford Fire Company.

From 1950 until his retirement in 1991, Jack and Stella owned and operated the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, owned and operated Henry's General Store from 1950 to 1971, as well as Henry's Construction from 1960 until 1971. He also served two terms as a Juniata County Commissioner.

A Masonic Service will be held at 6:45 p.m. followed by funeral services at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at the East Waterford Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John C. Park officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the East Waterford Cemetery.

The viewing will be from 3 to 6:45 p.m. Sunday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Henry's memory may be made to the East Waterford Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 174, East Waterford, PA 17021 or to the Juniata County Library, 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
