Born on Feb. 28, 1944, in Tuscarora Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Warren J. and Madeline (Landis) Dowling. On April 7, 1965, she married Clifford D. "Dex" Stimeling, with whom she shared more than 48 years of marriage, before he preceded her in death on May 25, 2013.

Surviving are: her children, Daryl Stimeling and his wife, Paula, of Lewistown, and Wendy Hoover and her husband, Lynn, of Thompsontown; five siblings, Warren Dowling and his wife, Joyce, of Franklinville, N.Y., Robert Dowling and his wife, Faye, of Rogersville, Tenn., James Dowling, of Port Royal, Fred Dowling and his wife, Dorothy, of Port Royal, and Charles Dowling and his wife, Roberta, of McAlisterville; and she leaves behind four grandchildren, Tiffany Stimeling, Rachel Stimeling, Colton Hoover and Caitlin Hoover.

One brother, John Dowling, preceded her in death in 1959.

Mrs. Stimeling was a member of the Tuscarora Church of the Brethren, Port Royal.

She was a homemaker who, in earlier life, worked as a seamstress for Rae Sel, Port Royal, cleaned private homes and served as a babysitter.

Barbara enjoyed going on Sunday drives and traveling with her husband. She also loved her cat Molly, making family meals, having coffee with the ladies and watching her hummingbirds and finches. However, her greatest joy came from attending her grandchildren's activities and spending time with her entire family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. James A. Neimond Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Niemond's Cemetery, Richfield.

There will be no viewing. However, family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

For those who wish, memorial donations may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans, 4219 East Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.

Online tributes and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.brownfuneralhomesinc.com.
