McVEYTOWN - Who's got their hands in The Cookie Jar? The customers of McVeytown's newest bakery do. Owned by Mamie Yost, The Cookie Jar boasts 11 varieties of cookies as well as homemade pies, sticky buns and bread.
"Everything is made from scratch and, at this time of year, I'll probably be baking every day," Yost said. "I have cookies available all the time and sticky buns, pies and bread every Friday. The sticky buns are a real favorite."
Yost began her baking career making cookies for the Riverside Greenhouse's open house events. When visitors started asking for cookies to bring home, she set a price and began to grow the potential business.

The Cookie Jar offers nine varieties of homemade cookies as well as bread, sticky buns and pies at the McVeytown location inside the River Valley Hardware Store.
Then, when her husband bought the River Valley Hardware property, they converted the salon next door into a bakery and she opened The Cookie Jar. Her homemade sweets can now be found in their own section, in the front of the hardware store.
In addition to the shelves of chocolate chip, peanut butter, raisin filled, oatmeal raisin and sand tart cookies, customers can pre-order party trays of eight dozen cookies. Each tray is made to order based on what kind of cookies the customer would like, Yost said.
The Cookie Jar, located at 5675 U.S. 522 S., McVeytown, is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. For more information or to place a special order, contact Yost at 899-6850 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
