John J. Stewart Sr.

LEWISTOWN - John J. Stewart Sr., 76, of Lewistown, went to be with his heavenly father at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Geisinger-Lewis- town Hospital.

Born on Jan. 24, 1937, in Granville Township, he was a son of the late John J. and Ruth (Bush) Stewart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnne Stewart Taylor, and a sister, Janet Fultz.

John is survived by: his wife, Helen (Rowles) Stewart, whom he married on June 4, 1955; his son and daughter, John J. Stewart Jr. and Melody Smith and husband, Rick, both of Lewistown; four grandsons, Kevin Stewart and fiancee, Megan Sheehan, of Vermont, Douglas Taylor, whom he raised, John Stewart III, whom he raised, and wife, Amanda, and Zach Smith, all of Lewistown; two great-grandchildren, Damon Stewart and Aubrey Stewart; siblings, Phyllis Witmer and husband, Phil, of Paisley, Fla., Roy Stewart, of Granville, Gary Stewart, of Paisley, Fla., Harold Stewart, Warren Stewart and wife, Jeanie, and Ken Stewart, all of Granville; and many nieces and nephews who loved John as much as he loved each of them.

John worked at Standard Steel for 33 years, retiring in 1996.

Many would remember John from all the time he spent on his front porch on Third Street, at the red light. He always had a wave and a smile for everyone.

He was a lifetime member of Brooklyn Hose Co. and Granville and Junction Fire companies and a member of Touring Friends. He loved riding his motorcycle.

A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dennis Sproull officiating.

Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 123 S. Sparks St., State College, PA 16801.
