S. Frank Mitchell

LEWISTOWN - S. Frank Mitchell, 82, of Fryers Hill Road, Lewistown, died on Nov. 14, 2013, of complications from COPD and heart disease.

Frank was born on Feb. 25, 1931, in Lewistown, to the late Samuel C. and Alverna (Kauffman) Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Ann K. (Yoder-Marinos) Mitchell.

Also surviving are: children, Sally Mitchell, of California, Sandra (Dennis) Knapik, of Coburn, Sue Ann (Russell) Sherwood, of Lewistown, Sharon (James) Gentry, of Mesa, Ariz., and Cindy Mitchell, of Lewistown; stepchildren, Stacy Marinos, of Pittsburgh, and Christa (John) Zitko, of Hummelstown; 15 grand- children; three stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sibilings, Martha Frye, of State College, Frances (Howard) Burd, of LaHabre, Calif. and David (Connie) Mitchell, of Lewistown; and a sister-in-law, Betty (Donald) Mitchell, of Lewistown.

He was predeceased by brothers Harold and Donald Mitchell as well as children, Susan Mitchell and Mark Mitchell Sr.

He graduated from Derry High School in 1949 and attended Penn State and Shippensburg universities, studying agriculture. After graduating, Frank went into farming in Dry Valley. In 1972, he switched careers and became an independent insurance salesman specializing in farm insurance.

Frank lived his whole life in Dry Valley where he built his own home overlooking the valley and his farm. He enjoyed woodworking, and golf. He enjoyed tennis and he was a founding member of the Walnut Springs Racquet Club and Senior Extension where he was currently vice president.

He also enjoyed traveling in the U.S,, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.

He was an avid fan of the Steelers, PSU Lady Lions basketball and the Pittsburgh Pirates, following them to spring training in Florida and attending their games. He cherished the time spent with family, his "grandies" and "great grandies," neighbors and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at the Little Valley Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Robert Zorn and James Bricker officiating.

Friends and family will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the church.

Box 339, Grantville, PA 17028 or at, where his stepgranddaughter, Emma, takes therapeutic riding lessons.
