LEWISTOWN - Moses J. Zook, 90, of 87 Bell Lane, Belleville, died at 3:59 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Lewistown Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1923, in Belleville, a son of the late Stephen W. and Mary E. (Peachey) Zook. His wife, Lomie E. (Peachey) Zook, whom he married on Oct. 26, 1944, survives at home.
Also surviving are: his children, Paul J. Zook and wife, Miriam (Beachy), of Belleville, Ruth Anne and husband, Harold Dean Miller, of Honey Grove, Mark L. Zook and wife, Gloria (Spicher) of Belleville, and Raymond T. Zook and wife, Deborah (Setser), of McVeytown; 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sadie Peachey, of McVeytown, Mary Peachey, of Belleville, Ezra Zook, of Belleville, and Stephen W. Zook Jr., and wife, Bertha, of Belleville; brother-in-law, Sylvanus Peachey; and sisters-in-law, Naomi Zook and Katie Zook.
He was preceded in death by: three sisters, Katie Yoder, Lizzie Zook and Ada Peachey; five brothers, Jesse, Jacob, Daniel, Mark and David Zook; and a great-grandson, Angelo David Miller.
Moses was a dairy farmer. After his retirement from farming, he was employed at A.J. Peachey's Meats as a butcher for a number of years.
He was a member of Valley View Amish Mennonite Church, and a former member of the Mennonite Historical society for a number of years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, studying genealogy and, after his retirement, he and his wife also enjoyed traveling. Moses was an avid reader and liked reading books of various subjects. He was also involved in various projects with Mennonite Disaster Service.
A funeral service will be held in his memory at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Valley View Amish Mennonite Church, with Eli King, Mark Zook and Earl Peachey officiating. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the church.
