Police said Jeremy Weaver, 20, of Lewistown, was driving a 2006 Mazda 3 west on John Street when he turned sharply to the right at the intersection with Market Street. Police said he then continued to travel across the the sidewalk and his front bumper struck the restaurant.
According to the report, Weaver's car then spun to the right and then the rear of the car hit the front bumper of a 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche, which was parked outside the restaurant.
One of Weaver's passengers, Rosemary Weaver, 24, of Lewistown, told police she saw the driver gaining speed as he was crossing the bridge on state Route 103 into McVeytown. Rosemary said she attempted to alert him, but he did not respond, according to the report.
She told police that she pulled the steering wheel to the right, in an attempt to steer around the monument in the middle of the intersection and this is when the vehicle came off of the road, police said.
