MIFFLINTOWN - All Juniata County residents are eligible for a 22 to 40 percent discount on prescription drugs, said Allison Fisher, human services director.
Fisher gave a brief presentation on Tuesday morning during a meeting of the Juniata County Board of Commissioners to remind area residents of the program issued by the National Association of Counties. She said discount cards work like a coupon and are not attached to any personal information. If they are lost or stolen, a new card can be provided.
Commissioner Teresa O'Neal said the cards are offered at no cost to Juniata County and also can be used for family, pet or livestock prescription medications. The program has been in effect since about 2006, she said.
"It's there to use, and we should be using them," Fisher said.
Area residents who are not sure where to pick up a NACo Prescription Discount Card may call Allison Fisher at 242-5452 to have one mailed.
Also during the meeting, William Seigel, chief of SEDA-Council of Governments, requested finalization of the fiscal year 2013 CDBG funds in the amount of $221,296. The total amount represents an increase of $373 in funds and covers the following allotments: $98,000 to the Port Royal Municipal Authority project, $83,466 to the EMS Black Log communications tower project and $39,830 for administration costs.
The board of commissioners approved the finalization of the 2013 CDBG funds.
Seigel said the funds allotted for the tower project are in excess of what is needed to finalize the project. A balance will be left to re-allocate to another project at a later date.

Reviewed the Juniata County Sheriff Department's July 2013 monthly report, submitted by Sheriff Thomas Lyter.
Approved the CourtView-JuryTRAC software annual maintenance agreement in the amount of $1,575. The support period covers Nov. 1, 2013, through Oct. 31, 2014.
Approved the Purchase of Service Agreement between Juniata County Children and Youth Services, the Juniata County Probation Department and The Christian Home of Johnstown Inc., submitted by Children and Youth Director Penni Abram. The agreement is in force and effect from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014, inclusive.
Approved the certification statement for county Children and Youth social service programs for the period July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013, submitted by Abram.
Approved the Assurance of Compliance/Participation Form - Documentation of Participation by the Juvenile Court, submitted by Abram.
Acknowledged the collective bargaining agreement with the ICOP Lodge 17 Employee Unit for the contract term Jan. 1, 2013, to Dec. 31, 2016.
Approved checks Nos. 38, 273 through 38,313 in the amount of $109,048.42.
