William E. Close

REEDSVILLE-William E. Close, 95, of Church Hill, Reedsville, died at 12:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at his home. Born on Oct. 3, 1917, in Reedsville, he was the son of the late Orris Franklin Close and Naomi H. (Rodgers) Close. He is survived by his wife, Arlene (Douglas) Leiter Close, whom he married on April 9, 1989.

Also surviving are: children, Paul (Martha Jane) Dixon and Mary Ann Ruelke, both of Strasburg, Va., and stepdaughter, Cheryl Leiter Rhodes, of Harrisburg; seven grand- children; three stepgrandchildren; 15 great - great-grandchildren and three stepgreat- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline M. (Peters) Close, on June 27, 1982, as well as two sisters, Betty C. Mowery and Jean V. Pecht.

He started at Standard Steel in Burnham, as a pattern maker in 1937 until the foundry closed in 1964. He retired in March 1980 as maintenance foreman, with 35 years of service.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he served in the construction battalion.

He was a member of East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Reedsville, Free and Accepted Masons and Tall Cedars of Lebanon.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Reedsville, with the Rev. Pat Roller officiating.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednes -day, at East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Reedsville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Interment will be at Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
