LEWISTOWN - A temporary occupancy permit has been granted for the Indian Valley Elementary and Intermediate School and the building will re-open to students Monday morning, Mifflin County School District Superintendent James Estep said late Friday afternoon.
The school building was closed to students on Friday due to uncertainty about the status of a proper occupancy permit for the building while renovations are ongoing. That uncertainty and other safety concerns expressed by parents and family members led to significant public outcry from the community on Thursday.
Estep said Friday that a state inspector had completed another inspection of the school building and issued a temporary occupancy permit to the school district. He said classes will resume on Monday.
