BELLEVILLE - Every day Crystal Kline hits the ground running at her new barbershop in Belleville - Big Valley Barberrette.
It's a cozy shop on East Main Street. It used to be called Pierce's Barbershop until Kline purchased the business and reopened it under the new name on Aug. 1.
Kline works long hours at the barbershop and is also a full time mother of three children.
Crystal Kline recently purchased a barbershop on Main Street in Belleville and opened it on Aug. 1 under the name ‘Big Valley Barberrette.’
Kline first graduated with a cosmotology degree from Empire Beauty School and then acquired her barber's license.
During her time in school, she placed 46th out of 2,500 competitors at a national competition in Hershey.
Kline said she is the only person in her industry in this area who has experience cutting hair for African-Americans as well.
Some of the more intricate cuts Kline has experience with include flat-tops, skinfades, high and tight, conservative cuts and blowouts, as well as other technical cuts.
In general, regular cuts cost $10 and a buzz cut costs $8. On Wednesdays, seniors can get their hair cut for $9, while on Thursdays kids can get their hair cut for $9.
Kline said the prices on hair cuts may vary based on the amount of time it takes and she does not do color or perms.
Big Valley Barberrette is located at 4129 E. Main Street, Belleville and is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
In addition to regular business hours, on Mondays she is available by appointment for house calls in Mifflin County, particularly for people who may have a disability or difficulty acquiring transportation to her shop.
Her business number is 935-9925 and Kline can also be reached by cellphone at 250-4288.
Kline said her next big step will be acquiring her barber manager's license which would allow her the opportunity to train others in the trade.
