LEWISTOWN - Fred A. Richard, 79, of Lewistown, peacefully left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at his home.

Born July 15, 1934, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Paul R. and Ruth (Hummel) Richard.

He is survived by: his wife, Freda (Stade) Richard; his children, Robert T. Richard and wife, Susan, of Lewistown, Karen L. Yohn, of Yeagertown, Paul A. Richard and wife, Rhonda, of McVeytown, and Patricia L. Richard, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his sister, Marian Brode and husband, Robert, of Mechanicsburg; three stepdaughters; 10 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren;

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin, Robert Eugene, Clair and Tom Richard.

Fred was an independent agent for State Farm Insurance from 1962 until his retirement in 1991.

He was a member of Maitland Church of the Brethren, where he held various church offices, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.

He was president of the Maitland Cemetery Company Inc.

He was a member of: the Lewistown Kiwanis Club; BPOE. No. 663, in Lewistown; A.F. Musicians Union Local No. 660; Life Underwriters Association; Morrison Cove Home Auxiliary; Lewistown Hospital Foundation; and a former president of Libby's Trailblazers.

He was a former volunteer for the American Heart Association and United Way, a former member of the Juniata Valley YMCA, Lewistown Country Club and Walnut Springs Racquet Club.

He was a former member of the Big Band Sound, in Mount Union. He was a member and organizer of the Fred Richard Band, which played at various area functions for the last 54 years. He was a member of the Lewistown Community Band, he performed with the Habbershon's Gospel Group in the early 1970s and he sang with the Richard Quartet for 65 years.

Fred flew light aircraft as a private pilot and made crafted furniture for family and friends.

He was the unofficial "mayor" of Poe Valley, where he resided as a year-round resident for 14 years.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Maitland Church of the Brethren, 315 Crossover Drive, with the Rev. Charles Eldredge officiating. Interment will be in Maitland Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Maitland Church of the Brethren, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Fred's memory can be made to Maitland Church of the Brethren, 315 Crossover Drive, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Heller- Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main Street, Lewistown.
