To the editor:
I am writing in response to the comment in the Open Line dated July 22, in reference to the firefighter responding to the barn fire and driving like an "idiot."
I have the most respect for all our emergency personnel (firefighters, EMTS, policemen, etc.) who put their lives on the line every day to help and protect others. There are many times that they give up their family plans to come to the rescue of someone in need and don't think twice about it. When they are responding to a call their adrenaline is rushing and yes, they may drive a little fast, but keep in mind that they are rushing to come save a house or a life. I certainly don't mind them driving a little fast and also pulling out of their way so they can reach their destination.
They are all heroes in my eyes. Keep in mind that someday that person you called an "idiot" might be responding to one or someone in your family's needs and you will be happy that they put their life on the line to come and assist you.
Thank you to all who give their personal time and many long hours to receive the proper training to be able to help those in need. You are all heroes in not only my eyes, but many others. Keep up the good work.
