SPRUCE HILL - Dean S. Yoder, 84, of Spruce Hill, Juniata County, died Wednesday morning, July 31, 2013, at his home.
He was born on Sept. 8, 1928, in Spruce Hill. He was a son of the late Noah Hertzler Yoder and Mary Ellen (Souders) Yoder.
He is survived by: two nieces, Mrs. William (Suellen) Renz, of Dahlonega, Ga., and Judy E. Gilson, of Hershey; one great-niece; two great-nephews; and six great-great-nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Y. Gilson and Gladys Y. Snyder, and brothers, C. Hugh (Jim) Yoder and Gerald E. (Gerd) Yoder.
He was a 1946 graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal, and also a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He retired from the Standard Steel Corporation, Burnham, where he worked as a carpenter.
Mr. Yoder was a member of Matamoras United Methodist Church, Spruce Hill. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, trapping and fishing, as well as feeding and watching birds.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Frank J. Swartz officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
