THORNDALE - In the past two games at the Little League Softball state tournament, the Mifflin County 9- and 10-year-olds have seen just how important a run or two can be.
Wednesday, Mifflin County was no-hit by Newberry for a 2-0 loss in the first game of pool play. Thursday, the locals put another game in the loss column after West Point pulled off a 1-0 extra-innings win to put Mifflin County at 0-2 in the tournament.
Miffin County pitcher Chloe Fitzgerald held West Point scoreless through seven innings, but West Point took advantage of a pitching change in the eighth to plate a run off a deep line drive to right.
Tori Nichols had a double for Mifflin County, but it was one of the very few hits the locals were able to collect against West Point's pitching.
In the seventh, Mifflin County had the bases loaded, but was unable to plate a run.
"It was a great game all around. The girls played excellent," Mifflin County coach Jason Treaster said.
The locals get back in action at 7 p.m. today against Punxsutawney.
