THOMPSONTOWN - Mary L. Detra, 84, of Locust Run, Thompsontown, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Shirley Zeiders
Born May 31, 1929, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late John and Carrie (Catherman) Carruthers.
She is survived by: two sons, Brad Detra and wife, Denise, and John Detra and wife, Gloria, all of Thompsontown; one daughter, Shirley Zeiders and husband, Greg, of Mifflintown; one sister, Sara Salazar, of Mifflintown; one brother, Bill Carruthers and wife, Mid, of Lewistown; two sisters-in-law, Midge Dunn, of Thompsontown, and Doris Bailor, of Port Royal; one brother-in-law, Merle "Jim" Ranck, of Mifflintown; six grandchildren, Angie Wieseman Walters and husband, Sam, Jason Detra and wife, Becky, Nikki Detra Shanahan, Cynnamon Detra Strohecker and husband, Mark, Matthew Zeiders and wife, Suzanne, and Travis Zeiders and wife, Shelley; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Blair "Sonny" Detra Jr., on April 9, 1970, and by one daughter, Bonnie Lee Detra Wieseman, on Aug. 20, 2000.
Mary graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1947 and worked at the East Salem Cutting Factory and Perfection Cleaning.
She was a member of Millerstown Moose, Mifflintown VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Locust Run United Methodist Church.
She loved taking care of her home, keeping it clean, mowing her yard and tending to her flowerbeds.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at Guss Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. James B. Wooster Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Locust Run Cemetery.
Although there will be no viewing, the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
