Shem O. Swarey

LEWISTOWN - Shem O. Swarey, 78, of 652 Front Mountain Road, Allensville, died at 9:25 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Jan. 5, 1935, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Crist K. and Susie (Peachey) Swarey. His wife, Fannie M. (Peachey) Swarey, whom he married Dec. 1, 1955, preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2009.

He is survived by: his children, Lomie K. Yoder and husband, David, of Jackson, Ohio, Daniel C. Swarey and wife, Mary, of Mill Creek, Susie E. Kanagy and husband, Aquilla, of Allensville, Thomas L. Swarey and wife, Lena, of Belleville, Willie D. Swarey and wife, Leah, of Belleville, Fannie E. Peachey and husband, Daniel L. Jr., of Allensville, Shem O. Swarey Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Little Falls, N.Y., Emanuel J. Swarey and wife, Ada, of Allensville, Aaron M. Swarey and wife, Fannie, of Mill Creek, and David C. Swarey and wife, Sylvia, of Little Falls, N.Y.; son-in-law, Phares H. Swarey and wife, Barbie L. (Fisher) of Allensville; sister, Susie J. Peachey and husband, Daniel N., of Belleville; 102 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: a daughter, Hettie M. Swarey, in 2002; a stillborn son, John S. Swarey, in 1978; six brothers, David C., Daniel J., Enos S., Samuel T., Crist K. and Abraham D.; and eight sisters, Katie L. Renno, Sarah M. Peight, Malinda E. Peachey, Fannie L. Peachey, Emma M. Yoder, Drucilla A. Renno, Judith B. Kanagy and Miriam S. Peachey; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren;

Shem was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

His funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Aquilla K. Kanagy residence, with Bishop Joseph E. Peachey and Minister Bennie P. Kanagy officiating. Burial will take place at Allensville Amish Mennonite Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Aquilla Kanagy residence.

Arrangements are under the care of Henderson Funeral Home Inc., 3813 W. Main St., Belleville.
