BELLEFONTE - Big Valley won in a big way in its 18-2 first-round win against Marion Walker Saturday for the District 5, 9 and 10-year-old Little League All-Star tournament. The game finished in four innings due to the 10-run rule.
Colby Bodtorf got the win for Big Valley, striking out one and allowing just one hit. Ethan Eichhorn also pitched, with two strikeouts and two runs allowed.
Big Valley's big innings were in the third and the fourth, when the locals put up 15 runs combined. In the third, Big Valley broke out the bats in addition to taking advantage of a few Marion Walker errors to take the big lead. The inning was highlighted by two triples and two RBIs from Bodtorf, plus RBIs from Trey Kibe, Marshall Maidens and Cole Knable.
The fourth got started with a double from Kaden Milliron. The runs then started pouring in when RBIs from Ian Hartzler and Maidens, a double from Bodtorf and a Eichhorn sacrifice RBI filled out Big Valley's offense for the inning.
Ian Hartzler, Bodtorf and Milliron also had a beautiful 7-6-5 relay to rob Marion Walker of a triple in the third.
Big Valley moves on to the next round Monday at Penns Valley with a 6 p.m. start.
District 13, 13 and
Juniata County 12,
Milton 1 (5 innings)
NEW BERLIN - Juniata County took a second-round win over Milton, 12-1, in its District 13, 13 and-14-year-olds All-Star game Sunday.
"They hit the ball well," Juniata County coach Danny Snyder said, and it was no exaggeration.
Juniata County had a triple from Zack Snyder and doubles from Spencer Page, Calum Faust, Jared Heister and Seth Rowe for extra-base hits. The locals also had RBIs from Josh Parsons, Shirk, Page, Foust, Snyder, Zac Piper and Heister.
A strong outing from winning pitcher Korey Martin also contributed to the locals' effort, as three strikeouts from him plus two from relief pitcher Page kept Milton to just five hits and one run.
"He just threw strikes," Snyder said of Martin. "Our defense didn't have any errors. When you're throwing strikes and you have the defense behind you, good things happen."
Juniata County advances to the quarterfinals Thursday against Selinsgrove. The game will be played 5 p.m. at New Berlin.
