CROSS FORK - Russell Miles "Rusty" Crawford Jr., 68, of Cross Fork, died Monday, June 10, 2013, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
He was born May 26, 1945, in Lewistown, the son of the late Russell Miles "Uppy" Crawford Sr. and Esther (Adams) Crawford.
Rusty is survived by: his wife, Sylvia (Faux) Crawford, whom he married on June 8, 1968; son, Russell Miles Crawford III, of Burnham; daughter, Laura; son-in-law, Scott; Brenton Miles Kline, of Breezy Corner; sister, Kay D. Wilson, of Harrisburg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Rusty graduated from Shippensburg State College with his Bachelor of Science in elementary education in 1967 and Master of Science in counseling in 1969. He taught at Brown Elementary for 16 years and was a guidance counselor in several Mifflin County elementary and middle schools for 16 years.
Rusty was cofounder of WCHX Radio. He was recognized and loved by children in Mifflin and surrounding counties as the WCHX chicken.
Rusty volunteered for many organizations benefiting children. He was a member of Reedsville Volunteer Fire Co., where he was instrumental in organizing the Blue Rock Blue Grass Music Festival and the Reedsville Fireman's Carnival. Rusty was also a life member of both Yeagertown and Burnham Fire companies, Cross Fork Sportsman's Association, and both Kettle Creek Hose and Ambulance companies.
A celebration of life will be held in Cross Fork.
