BURNHAM - A Mifflin County motorcyclist with an active warrant out for his arrest led police on a high-speed chase Monday evening, after which it was determined he was under the influence of alcohol, Mifflin County Regional Police Department reports.
Police said they were dispatched just before 8 p.m.to Freedom Avenue in Burnham for a report of a motorcycle crash near the intersection with Jasper Lane. Before police arrived, they were told the motorcyclist, John B. Guthridge, of Alfarata Road, had gotten back on his bike and was traveling toward Vira Road and appeared to be intoxicated, according to the police report.
Police said they caught up with Guthridge on Vira Road at the intersection with Long Lane and saw him turn and begin to weave in traffic. Police said they tried to conduct a traffic stop, but Guthridge did not stop and proceeded to lead police on a high-speed chase of about five miles, during which Guthridge passed a police car, which was attempting to slow him down.
Guthridge eventually stopped at his home on Alfarata Road, where it was determined that he was under the influence of alcohol and that there was an active warrant for his arrest, police said.
Guthridge was arrested on the warrant and taken to Mifflin County Correctional Facility. He has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing or attempting to elude police, careless driving and other related charges.
